Police in Lurgan responded to a report of damage at the former St Ronan's College site on Thursday. They found a fire burning inside one of the derelict buildings in Edward Street and Francis Street. Three young people were hiding in a room there.

The site previously housed St Mary’s Junior High School and St Paul’s Junior High School. A new St Ronan’s College opened at the Cornakinnegar site.

A PSNI spokesperson stated that reports of young people causing damage at the old site increased over the past week. The three young people face action for several offences. Police noted the risks of hiding in a burning structure.

The PSNI described the site as unsafe for young people. Officers urged parents to monitor their children's locations to prevent danger to themselves and others.

Sinn Féin Councillor Mary O’Dowd pointed out significant dangers at the premises.
