Police are investigating a fire at a vacant building that once housed Coleraine High School in County Londonderry as arson. The blaze was reported shortly after 5pm on Sunday, September 27.

Officers and firefighters attended the property on Lodge Road after receiving a report at approximately 5.15pm. Fire crews from Coleraine, Portstewart, Maghera and Portrush stations responded, along with an aerial appliance from Northland Fire Station in Derry/Londonderry.

The road was closed temporarily to allow firefighters to bring the fire under control. Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the flames, and the incident was dealt with by 10.02pm.

No injuries were reported. The PSNI has described the ignition as deliberate and is appealing for information. Anyone who was in the area and saw suspicious activity, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.

Coleraine High School was an all-girls' grammar school. The building had been vacant.
