Developers Cubic3 and Clanmil Housing have entered discussions over the future of Hilden Mill, a Grade B+ listed thread mill in Lisburn next to the River Lagan. The site once relied on a waterwheel for power.

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council's regeneration and growth committee will review a report on the plans in coming weeks. Councillor Gary Hynds noted interest in the site, calling it an important heritage location for Lisburn.

PJK Developments has appealed a council decision blocking demolition of some heritage buildings at the 24-acre site, abandoned since 2006. The council faces repeated arson and vandalism there, worsening deterioration of listed structures.

A council officer confirmed interest from multiple parties in talks with the developer. The officer stated protection of the heritage must occur in any development.

Previous owner Galliard Homes received approval for up to 600 houses, but that permission lapsed.
