Dungannon Music and Drama Festival Underway in Mid Ulster
The Dungannon Music and Drama Festival takes place at Drumglass Parish Centre in Dungannon from March 2 to March 12.
Richard Yarr serves as adjudicator. He works as a music and arts producer for BBC Northern Ireland and presents the Radio Ulster programme Sounds Sacred.
The music section ran last week. Musical accompanists were Orly Watson and Robert Woods. Categories covered piano duet, piano solo, junior song and chorus, folk song, popular song, traditional solo, traditional duet, tin whistle duet, traditional ensemble, wind solo, vocal solo and original song. Four winners received Perpetual Challenge Cups.
The speech section runs this week. Categories include solo musical theatre, favourite poem, reading at sight, speech from Shakespeare, sonnet, prose recital and poem by an Irish author. Four winners will receive Perpetual Challenge Cups.
A gala night occurs at 7pm on March 12 in Drumglass Parish Hall. Winners of the Perpetual Challenge Cups from music and speech sections perform alongside other high-scoring participants.
