Council workers have installed a new FIFA Quality 3G pitch at Foyle Arena in Derry. The project forms part of a £485.5k programme with completion expected this month.

Contractors removed the old plastic carpet at the end of January. Work began on site this week, according to Barry O'Hagan, Head of Community Development.

The new surface at Foyle Arena will serve users displaced from Brandywell stadium. Reduced playing time there results from installation of a new grass pitch between April and June.

Upgrades also cover Bishop’s Field in Creggan and Leafair. Barry O'Hagan confirmed three new 3G pitch surfaces in total, including a resurface at Bishop's Field and Leafair.
