Economy Minister Reappoints Chair of Stranmillis University College Governors
Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald announced the reappointment of Edgar Jardine as chair of the Stranmillis University College board of governors. The term runs from 1 January 2026 to 31 July 2027.
The appointment follows the code of practice from the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland. Members of the governing body receive no remuneration but can claim allowances for travel and subsistence at Northern Ireland Civil Service rates.
Stranmillis University College provides teacher training for primary and secondary schools, professional development courses, a BA in Early Childhood Studies, and a BSc in Health, Physical Activity and Sport. The college operates as a university college of Queen's University Belfast.
Jardine previously served as chief executive of the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency. He held deputy secretary positions in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure. He also acted as interim chief executive of the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
Jardine received the CB in 2012 for public service. After retiring from the Northern Ireland Civil Service, he joined the Probation Board for Northern Ireland from 2012 to 2018 and the Education Authority from 2015 to 2020.
He served as an independent member of the NI Policing Board from April 2020 to March 2024, including as vice chair. Currently, he chairs the Department of Finance Statistics Advisory Committee and sits as a non-executive member of the NI Prison Service Management Board.
Jardine joined the Stranmillis University College governing body in 2014 and has chaired it for the past four years. He declared no political activity in the past five years. Appointments occur on merit.
