Man Arrested in Derry Vehicle Tampering Incident
Police officers responded to Epworth Street in Derry at around 5am on Saturday, March 7, following reports of a man breaking into and damaging vehicles.
A number of parked cars in the area had windows smashed and interiors ransacked.
Officers found the suspect a short distance away inside a vehicle that did not belong to him.
Chief Inspector Cathal Pearce stated the man was arrested on suspicion of theft, vehicle tampering, vehicle interference, and criminal damage. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
Chief Inspector Pearce said police take reports of suspicious activity seriously and urged the public to report any unusual behaviour immediately.
He thanked the local community for their prompt report, which enabled a quick arrest.
Police requested information from anyone who saw suspicious behaviour in the area. Contact officers on 101, quoting reference 233 07/03/26.
Officers also sought CCTV or mobile footage from shortly before the incident.
