DAERA Minister Muir Extends CNCC Appointment Deadline to March 2026
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) extended the deadline for applications to appoint a chairperson and up to 18 members to the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside (CNCC). The new deadline is noon on Thursday, 19 March 2026.
The CNCC acts as a statutory adviser to DAERA on nature conservation and countryside matters. It provides advice to other government departments within its remit.
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir said the natural environment faces critical challenges. He stated the CNCC will advise DAERA on protecting and restoring nature, reversing biodiversity loss in Northern Ireland, and safeguarding wildlife.
Muir noted the need for a strong CNCC to offer evidence-based advice to DAERA and the Executive on nature conservation. He called on people with expertise in the natural and marine environment, and skills to communicate advice to different audiences, to apply for the roles.
Applications must reach DAERA by the extended deadline. Details on applying are on the nidirect website.
