Upper Crossgare Pipe Band held a supper and ceilidh last Friday night in Edengrove Presbyterian Church Hall to mark the start of its 90th anniversary. The event featured 13 pipers and seven side drummers entering the hall.

Pipe Major Mark Rodgers addressed attendees and outlined the band's history. He recognised past leaders including Pipe Majors Joseph Harte, Samuel Smyth, William Chambers, Duncan Graham, Ivor Chambers, Trevor Connor and William Wallace. Rodgers also noted contributions from leading drummers David Campbell, Wilby Hanna, Richard Garnham, Trevor McKibbin, Ian Cherry, David McKibbin and Adrian Booth.

Presentations went to long-serving members Kenny Crothers, Wilby Hanna and Derek Mack, who joined in the 1950s and continue in administrative and tuition roles. The three cut a special 90th anniversary cake.

A supper followed, provided by George Hanna and staff from Mulberry Tree. The McStocker Ceilidh Band supplied music for the ceilidh to close the evening.

Thanks went to the session and committee of Edengrove Presbyterian for the hall, Sam Gill for ticket arrangements and band secretary Anne Mack for the cake.

Wilby Hanna has been involved with the band for 75 years.
