A security alert in Lurgan ended on Thursday evening after police searched the Hoop Hill Park and Trasna Way area near the town centre.

Cordons had been placed at junctions with Hoop Hill Park and Trasna Way. Officers from the PSNI urged motorists and members of the public to avoid the location.

Residents were evacuated from homes in the Hoop Hill area while police dealt with a suspicious object.

Inspector Walker stated that a thorough search found nothing untoward. All cordons were lifted, and evacuated residents returned home.

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart noted that police investigated the suspicious object in Hoop Hill Park. She mentioned that residents, including some with mobility issues, had been evacuated.

Lurgan is in County Armagh.
