Team of 25 Runners Tackle Belfast Marathon for Mental Health Charity in Memory of School Nurse
A team of 25 runners will take part in the Belfast Marathon to raise funds for ALPS, a charity that aids emotional wellbeing, suicide prevention and community resilience. The effort honours Orla Kielt, a school nurse who died suddenly last year at age 40. Kielt enjoyed running.
The participants run as Miles in Memory of Orla. Jayne Hughes, speaking for Kielt's siblings Claire, Paula and Stephen, said the family feels overwhelmed by the number of entrants. She noted this reflects Kielt's influence on others and thanked ALPS for assistance after her death.
ALPS began operations 12 years ago. It offers services to families, children, young people, schools and clergy. The organisation partners with groups and individuals to reach those requiring aid.
Donations to the team's page will fund ALPS work. The Belfast Marathon draws thousands of participants each year through city streets.
