Parliament Buildings at Stormont hosted an event on Monday for European Victims of Terrorism Day. The observance dates to the 2004 Madrid bombings and occurs annually in March across Europe.

Pastor Stephen Thompson spoke about his aunt Yvonne Dunlop. She was 27 when she died in an IRA firebomb attack on her workplace in Ballymena in October 1976. Thompson is her nephew.

John Sproule addressed the murder of his brother Ian in a Provisional IRA attack. Sproule lives in Castlederg. Denise Mullen discussed her father Denis's killing by the UVF near Moy in County Tyrone. She was four years old at the time.

TUV MLA Timothy Gaston attended the event. He noted past gatherings drew victims from Northern Ireland, Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland and continental Europe. The programme opened with a minute of silence for those killed in terrorist acts.

Travis Dylan Frain also spoke. He survived injuries from the 2017 Westminster Bridge vehicle attack in London. Frain later helped establish Survivors Against Terror, a group seeking better state support for British terrorism survivors.
