Muhammed Ali Rez, aged 30 from Argyle Street in Derry, appeared in Derry court charged with raping a woman on December 9, 2023.

Prosecutors presented charges of stalking and harassment against the same woman from October 2023 until February 27, 2024. Rez faces two counts of false imprisonment, one on November 1, 2023, and one on February 27, 2024. He also stands accused of making threats to kill on February 27, 2024.

A police officer testified to linking Rez to each charge during the hearing.

Defence counsel Sean Doherty stated that Rez speaks limited English and the complainant does not speak his native Syrian language. Doherty noted Rez has no previous convictions and denies all charges.

The court released Rez on bail with conditions that bar him from contacting the complainant or going near her place of work.

Rez returns to court on March 19, 2024.
