SDLP Hosts Discussion on New Ireland in Cookstown
The Social Democratic and Labour Party has scheduled a panel event called The Ireland We're Building at the Glenavon House Hotel in Cookstown. It will occur on Thursday, March 5, beginning at 7.30pm. Claire Hanna MP, the party leader, will participate alongside Bernadette McAliskey and Emer Currie TD. SDLP Vice-Chair Sinéad O'Neill will chair the session.
An audience question-and-answer period will follow the main discussion. The SDLP plans similar events across the islands to gather views on a New Ireland. Hanna stated that the party organises these forums to explore future options for residents without setting rigid stances. She stressed the value of input from varied perspectives through open exchanges.
Cookstown lies in County Tyrone, where local engagement on political futures draws community interest. The SDLP maintains nationalist traditions while operating cross-community. Post-Brexit, talks on Northern Ireland's constitutional status have intensified, prompting parties to host public forums on unity proposals.
