South Belfast MP attends Ballynafeigh event for MBE recipient
Noel Liggett received an MBE in a recent honours list. Claire Hanna, MP for South Belfast, submitted a reference supporting his nomination. The Ballynafeigh district lodge invited Hanna to a celebration marking the award.
Hanna accepted the invitation and attended the event. Ballynafeigh lies in south Belfast, an area with an Orange Order district lodge amid a majority Catholic population.
The Orange Order organises district lodges across Northern Ireland to represent local lodges. Such community events occur in mixed areas of Belfast, where SDLP represents nationalist interests and the Orange Order upholds unionist traditions.
MBE awards form part of the UK honours system, recognising contributions to community service.
