Derry City and Strabane District Council plans a public talk titled Place Names of Strabane on Friday, March 6, at 1 p.m. in Strabane Library. Tarlach Mac Giolla Bhríde will lead the presentation.

The event covers origins and meanings of Strabane's place names and townlands. It addresses the role of Irish in the area's landscape and past.

Organizers deliver the talk in English. Seachtain na Gaeilge marks an annual push for Irish language use and traditions in Ireland, with events in Northern Ireland councils.

Tarlach Mac Giolla Bhríde co-wrote The Placenames of Strabane with Roddy Hegarty, due out soon. Bookings required at gaeilge@derrystrabane.com or 028 7137 6579.
