Representatives from Strabane's Mourne Echo talking newspaper participated in an RNIB Tech Fair in Derry. The event showcased services and technology for people with sight impairments.

The Mourne Echo has operated since 1985, providing local news and events read aloud by volunteers for partially sighted and blind residents in the Strabane district. Stories are selected from local publications and distributed to listeners.

Stephen Birkett and Janet Pollock represented the service at the fair, which featured stalls with specialist services, adaptive technology, and equipment to support independence and accessibility. Visitors interacted with organisations operating across Northern Ireland.

The service records newspapers onto CDs and USB flash drives, which are posted to recipients in yellow pouches via Royal Mail's Articles for the Blind scheme at no charge. Recipients return USB drives by reversing the address label and posting it.

Recordings are sent only after pouches are returned to ensure efficient resource use. Contact details provided include email stephen.birkett@btinternet.com and phone 07985 033545 for those interested in receiving the weekly edition.
