Lisburn apprentices claim top spots in SERC plumbing skills contest
Apprentices from South Eastern Regional College's Lisburn campus secured first and second places in the plumbing section of an intercampus SkillBuild competition. Alfie Carey, 20, from Magheralin, won first as a Level 3 Plumbing apprentice. Mathew Dalzell, 17, also from Magheralin, took second as a Level 2 Plumbing trainee.
Level 2 and Level 3 apprentices and traineeship students from the Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards campuses competed. The Construction Industry Training Board and WorldSkills supervised the event. Trades included carpentry, joinery, cabinet making, bricklaying, plastering, wall and floor tiling, plumbing, electrical installation, and fire and security.
Sponsors provided prizes for the top three places in each category. These included Denis Wilson of Glenavy, Makita, JP Corry, MacBlair, Jim's DIY Lisburn, DE Services Lisburn and Fernox.
Winning competitors from intercampus events at further education colleges across Northern Ireland advance to the SkillBuild NI regional competition. That event takes place at Southern Regional College's Greenbank Campus on 19 May 2026.
