Southern Regional College Students Complete BFI Film Academy Short Course
Two Level 3 Extended Diploma media students from Southern Regional College, aged 18 and 19, have completed the 2025/26 British Film Institute (BFI) Film Academy Short Course delivered by AmmA Creative Learning Centre.
The programme ran from September to December 2025 and concluded with an awards night in mid-January 2026, where participants' short films were screened. Students participated in production teams for short films, weekly evening workshops, and masterclasses led by film industry professionals.
One student served as a lighting technician and editor on the short film 'Doctor’s Orders', handling equipment setup and contributing to an early edit. The student noted the course influenced career plans towards lighting roles.
The other student operated the camera during filming and took a small acting role, stating the experience boosted confidence and clarified ambitions in the film industry, including potential university study.
Ryan O’Hagan, a media lecturer at the college, stated the students demonstrated professionalism, creativity, and commitment, gaining insights into industry standards and collaboration.
