SERC Civil Engineering Students Attend Employer Event at Queen’s University Belfast
Students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) participated in a 'Meet the Employers' event at Queen’s University Belfast earlier this month. The visit, organised for Level 3 Civil Engineering students, was accompanied by Simon Cummings, Deputy Head of School for the Built Environment.
The event took place in the Great Hall and focused on the Civil Engineering Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA) programme at Queen’s. This programme enables students to earn a degree while gaining paid industry experience.
Participants met employers recruiting apprentices, learned about hiring processes, and explored roles in the civil engineering sector. They also engaged with Queen’s academics, current HLA apprentices, and industry partners to discuss programme details, schedules, and course content.
Simon Cummings stated that the engagement helps SERC students identify employer matches and understand higher education pathways. He noted SERC’s own offerings in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Building Services Engineering, including HLAs, HNDs, and HNCs.
Applications for SERC full-time courses are open online. The college is hosting full-time open evenings from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, 5 March, at its Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn, and Newtownards campuses.
