Derby Day Dander walk raises £12,565 for Air Ambulance NI in memory of Lydia Ross
A group of 15 football fans completed a 26-mile walk from Ballymena Showgrounds to Coleraine Showgrounds on February 20, raising £12,565 for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland in memory of 21-year-old Ballymena United supporter Lydia Ross, who died in a road crash in 2023.
The event, named Derby Day Dander, coincided with Ballymena United's away match against rivals Coleraine FC. Organiser Ryan Crooks stated the walk was inspired by efforts from Lydia's father, Paul Ross, who has organised multiple fundraisers for the charity since his daughter's death.
Lydia Ross was a regular attendee at Ballymena United matches with her father, sitting in Block F as part of an unofficial supporters' group. Paul Ross attended every home and away game with her.
The walkers were joined by Henry Ross, Executive Chairman of Coleraine FC, and club steward Graham Bell. The JustGiving appeal began with a £1,000 target, which was exceeded before the walk started.
The total raised stands at £12,565, according to the organisers.
