Doctors announce strike dates in Northern Ireland
Doctors in Northern Ireland have announced dates for industrial action.
Resident doctors will stage a 24-hour full walkout on Friday, 20 November. Consultants and SAS doctors will also take industrial action, providing limited cover for a 24-hour period on Monday, 23 November.
The British Medical Association (BMA) announced the dates.
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Philip McGuigan said the Health Minister must urgently engage in meaningful negotiations with the BMA.
He said if an agreement cannot be reached, there is a very real risk of placing even greater pressure on already overstretched emergency services.
McGuigan said patients and frontline healthcare workers are already facing unacceptable pressures and lengthy waiting times. He said any escalation of industrial action, particularly during the winter period, will only add to those challenges.
He said a fair and sustainable resolution must be found that meets the needs of healthcare workers while ensuring patients continue to receive the care they deserve.
