A 28-year-old man from Portadown has been jailed for six months after throwing a bottle at a police vehicle during disorder on the Garvaghy Road.

Malachy McCann was sentenced at Craigavon Magistrates' Court on Friday 9 October. He had been convicted of disorderly behaviour and attempted criminal damage following an incident on Sunday 27 September.

Police said McCann stepped out from a crowd and threw a bottle at a police Land Rover. He then raised his arms and shouted before being led away by others in the crowd.

He was later arrested at his home address.

Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Griffin said the sentence reflects the seriousness with which such disorder is treated. She said attacks on police officers and vehicles are unacceptable and police will take robust action against anyone involved in criminal behaviour.

Police inquiries into the wider incident are ongoing. Anyone with information, CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone footage is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
