Olympic runner Ciara Mageean married long-term partner Thomas Moran in a small civil ceremony in Belfast on Monday. The couple shared photographs on Mageean's Instagram account showing them at landmarks around the city, including Belfast City Hall, the Titanic Docks and the Cathedral Quarter umbrellas.

Mageean's agent said the pair would celebrate with family and friends at a larger wedding party in the coming weeks.

Mageean, from Portaferry, is a two-time Olympian who competed in the 1500m at the 2016 Rio Games and the 2021 Tokyo Games. She was forced to withdraw from the Paris Olympics in 2024 due to an Achilles injury.

Her career includes a gold medal at the 2024 European Championships in Rome, silver at the 2022 European Championships, and bronze in 2016. She also won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and holds Irish records in the 800m, 1000m, 1500m and mile.

Mageean was named the 2023 BBC Northern Ireland Sports Personality of the Year. In May 2025 she was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer. She told BBC Sport NI last year that she would not let the cancer win and that you make your own hope.

The newlyweds were photographed at various locations around Belfast, including beside the Harland and Wolff cranes.
