A community radio sports programme in Derry has been shortlisted for a national award for the second year in a row.

Drive 105 Match Night Live is nominated for Sports Show of the Year at the UK Community Radio Awards. The programme is produced and delivered entirely by volunteers and covers Derry City FC matches, with commentary, analysis, interviews and on-location reporting.

The award nomination follows the team travelling to Bulgaria and Croatia to cover Derry City's UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League fixtures. Volunteers paid their own expenses and gave their time to provide radio, online and television coverage for supporters in Northern Ireland.

Dee Curran, the programme's producer and lead presenter, said the nomination is a pleasure for the team and shows the commitment of those involved. He noted that the show has expanded since the Covid lockdowns, with a pre-match programme that explores the club's history and discusses wider issues in sport, including mental health, misogyny and faith.

Richard Moore, director of Drive 105, said the nomination recognises the dedication and creativity of the volunteers. He said the station is proud of its community role and the continued development of the service.

The national awards ceremony takes place on 24 October, following the UK Community Radio Network's conference. The chair of the awards, Rebecca Steers, said the standard of entries demonstrates the talent, commitment and innovation in community radio.
