A trainee ophthalmologist at the Western Health and Social Care Trust has received a national award from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Parvesh Konda was presented with the Crombie Medal, which is given to the candidate achieving the highest mark in the Part 1 FRCOphth examination at the first attempt.

The presentation took place at the annual Regional Ophthalmology Meeting held at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Dr Konda is currently an ST2 trainee in the Western Trust's ophthalmology department.

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists describes the medal as a significant academic honour for trainees, recognising exceptional performance in the examination.

The Western Trust said Dr Konda's achievement reflects the standard of training and patient care within ophthalmology services across Northern Ireland.
