The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has recognised 92 employees for reaching milestones of 20, 30, and 40 years of service. The ceremony took place at the NIFRS Learning & Development College in Belfast on Thursday, 24 September 2026.

Among those in attendance were Deputy Lord Lieutenant of County Tyrone Reverend Canon Matthew Hagan, NIFRS Chief Fire & Rescue Officer Aidan Jennings, NIFRS Board Member Paul Kennedy, and Health Minister Robbie Butler.

Awards went to both operational and support staff. Forty-nine operational employees received 20-year long service medals, while seven support employees received 20-year long service pins. Twenty-six operational employees were presented with 30-year clasps and glasses, alongside two support employees who received 30-year glasses. For 40 years of service, six operational employees received clasps and medallions, and two support employees were awarded 40-year medallions.

Staff were also honoured with commendations for exemplary actions, professionalism, and distinguished conduct.

Health Minister Robbie Butler congratulated the recipients and paid tribute to their dedication. He said they had shown resilience in their commitment to the service and celebrated milestones of protecting communities and saving lives.

Chief Fire & Rescue Officer Aidan Jennings said he was honoured to recognise the 92 employees and was humbled to be among those receiving recognition. He said the awards were a fitting tribute to the skill, courage, and commitment demonstrated daily, and that their work involves being there when people need them most, often in challenging circumstances.

Chairperson of the NIFRS Board Jay Colville said long service represents countless hours of training, responding to emergencies, and supporting colleagues and the community. He thanked each employee for their outstanding service and congratulated all 92 people.
