Cliftonville manager Jim Magilton has demanded a defensive improvement from his players after conceding goals in recent matches against Larne and Glentoran.

The Reds lost 1-0 to Glentoran at the weekend, with Jordan Jenkins scoring the winner. Magilton felt his goalkeeper PJ Morrison was impeded in the build-up to the goal, but said Morrison should have got back to his feet quicker.

Magilton was critical of his team's aggression, saying they lacked it all over the pitch at times. He highlighted that the fundamentals of the game are to defend both boxes, and his side did not do that well enough.

He pointed to the first goal, where Ollie Samuels screamed for the ball but Shaun Leppard headed it away under pressure. Magilton felt Leppard's lack of confidence played a part, as he has not played much this year. He also noted that Kyle McClelland was beaten by a 5'10" midfield player.

Magilton was also frustrated with missed chances in attack. Ben Quinn missed a gilt-edged opportunity and also failed to square the ball to Rhyss Campbell for a tap-in. Magilton said Quinn is not in his good books as a result.

Despite being linked with the vacant Glentoran job before the match, Magilton insisted his focus was not different. He said he was totally focused on getting a result against any opponent.

Cliftonville now travel to face newly promoted Limavady United on Saturday. Limavady beat Bangor in their last home match but lost to Coleraine in their North-West derby last weekend.
