Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Labour Market Partnership will hold a careers event on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at Lagan Valley Island, targeting Year 12 to Upper Sixth students.

The event, called STEM in Action: Lisburn & Castlereagh, will include demonstrations from Mark the Science Guy, an interactive space experience from Armagh Planetarium, opportunities to speak with employers and educators, and a hands-on STEM challenge.

Participating organisations include Ulster University, South Eastern Regional College, Construction Futures, On Track Technicians, Leckey, Consarc, Creative Composites, SONI and Graham.

Chair of the council's Regeneration and Growth Committee, Alderman James Baird, said the event is designed to give young people insight into STEM opportunities and help them make informed decisions about future careers.

Daryl Irwin, Managing Director of On Track Technicians, said his company is committed to providing engineering career opportunities locally and supports the event as an investment in the next generation of talent.

Schools can register students on a first-come, first-served basis.

In a separate initiative, the council is supporting the 2026 Northern Ireland International Ploughing Championships through its Tourism Major Event Grant programme. The event will take place on 25 and 26 September 2026 at 20 Ballyknock Road, Royal Hillsborough.

Event host Ronald Coulter said Saturday's programme will feature horse ploughing, a tractor pull, a Kids' Zone, the Harry Ferguson Museum & Farmstead display, and vintage tractor demonstrations.
