Denis Boyle, a long-serving member of the O'Donovan Rossa GAA club in West Belfast, has died at the age of 91. He had been involved with the club for more than seven decades.

Boyle played full-back for Rossa in the 1953 Minor Football Championship, when the team defeated Creggan. He went on to win three football championships with Rossa during the 1950s.

After retiring from playing, Boyle remained active in the club. He worked in the bar at Rossa House and served on the club committee.

Rossa chairperson Malachy Carabine, in a statement, said Boyle understood what it took to build a club and that his love of Rossa was passed down through generations of his family.

Boyle's sons Conor and the late Ronan represented the club in hurling and football. His grandsons Conor and Chris later played for Rossa at senior level, while his granddaughter Orla also played and is the club's current PRO.

In later years, Boyle remained an ardent supporter, often attending championship matches with his wife Sheila. The couple also enjoyed breaks to Donegal together.

Carabine said Boyle's passing was a sad loss to everyone at the club, but his contribution and the generations of his family who followed him into the blue and gold ensure his legacy will endure.

Boyle's remains will be reposing at 6 Baronscourt Lane from Friday afternoon. Visitation will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 9pm. Funeral mass will take place at St Michael's Church, Finaghy, on Monday at 10am, with burial to follow in Kincasslagh, County Donegal.
