The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority has begun an investigation into Democratic Unionist Party MP Gregory Campbell over potential breaches of spending rules.

The watchdog announced on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, that it was examining whether the East Londonderry MP had been paid an amount under the MPs’ Staffing and Business Costs scheme that should not have been allowed. The probe relates to office costs, specifically printed constituency cards, signage and bought-in services.

IPSA stated that no further information would be published until the investigation is completed.

Mr Campbell is the first MP to face a new IPSA investigation this year.

A DUP spokesperson said the party regarded the matter as a politicised complaint about information cards and leaflets that Mr Campbell distributes weekly across his constituency. The spokesperson added that the MP had already supplied information on the issue and would cooperate fully with the process, but would make no further public comment while the investigation is ongoing.

Gregory Campbell has served as the MP for East Londonderry since 2001. He is the DUP’s Westminster spokesman on international development and the Cabinet Office.
