A 16-year-old male has been arrested under the Terrorism Act following the discovery of four viable explosive devices at an address in Omagh, County Tyrone. The arrest came after a planned police search at a property in the Gardenville Avenue area on Monday.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that ammunition technical officers were called to the scene after the initial discovery of a suspicious device. Cordons were established and a number of residents were evacuated from their homes while examinations took place.

During the continued search, three further suspicious devices were located inside the property. Police believe all four items are viable explosive devices. They have been removed for forensic examination.

The security alert in the area has now ended and residents have been able to return to their homes. The 16-year-old suspect remains in police custody.

The PSNI spokesperson stressed that the investigation to establish a motive is ongoing and urged the public not to speculate. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 281 24/08/256.
