The business targeted in an armed robbery in Middletown on Saturday is offering a €5,000 reward for information about the blue Volkswagen Passat used in the incident or the person who drove it.

The robbery occurred at the bureau de change inside Hughes’ shop on the Monaghan Road shortly before 1pm on 22 August. A man with his hood up and face covered entered the premises, produced what police believe was a small handgun, demanded money from the employee, and escaped with a quantity of cash.

The vehicle was seen emerging from a side road just before the premises and then crossing the bridge in the direction of Monaghan. It displayed no number plates on the front or rear.

Detective Inspector Griffin confirmed the member of staff was physically unharmed but shaken by the ordeal. Police are appealing for anyone with dash-cam or other footage to come forward, quoting reference number 630 of 22/08/26, either through the online witness appeal form at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals or by calling 101.

The business said all information about the reward will be treated in strict confidence and can be provided by contacting the owner of the bureau de change. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.
