A man in his 30s was arrested in Belfast on Friday morning, 14 August, in connection with a stalking report.

Police detained the man in the Wellington Place area of the city. The arrest followed a complaint made to police on Tuesday, 11 August.

The man remained in custody on Friday while enquiries continued.

Police described stalking as a pattern of unwanted, repeated behaviour that can cause fear or distress. They said threats of violence are not required for behaviour to count as stalking, and that any persistent unwanted contact which causes distress can qualify.

They advised anyone experiencing such behaviour to keep a record, log evidence, and report it. Thousands of police officers and staff have received training in recognising and responding to stalking offences, police added.
