The sister of Arlene Arkinson has renewed a public appeal for information on the 32nd anniversary of the teenager's disappearance, returning to Bundoran to release yellow roses into the sea.

Kathleen Arkinson, from Castlederg in County Tyrone, said she had not been back to Bundoran since her sister disappeared. She said yellow was her sister's favourite colour and that she hoped the gesture would encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Arlene Arkinson went missing after a disco in Bundoran in the early hours of 14 August 1994. She was last seen in a car driven by Robert Howard, a convicted murderer and rapist. Her body has not been found.

A 14-year inquest concluded in July 2021. Coroner Brian Sherrard found that Howard, a violent sexual offender and the last person seen with Arlene, was responsible for her death. The coroner ruled that the death occurred in Northern Ireland, but the precise location remains unknown.

Howard was arrested after Arlene's disappearance, released without charge, rearrested in 2002 and charged with her murder, but acquitted in 2005. He died in prison in England in 2015 while serving a life sentence for the rape and murder of Hannah Williams.

A Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland investigation in 2008 found that the Royal Ulster Constabulary failed to properly investigate the disappearance.

PSNI Detective Superintendent Chris Millar said all active lines of inquiry have concluded, but it is not too late for anyone with information to come forward. He said police share the family's frustration that Arlene's body has never been found.

An Garda Síochána said it conducted several searches in County Donegal based on information received, but no new information emerged.

Kathleen Arkinson said her last memory of her sister was seeing her leave for Bundoran on 13 August 1994. She said her sister was a cheerful 15-year-old with a talent for art. Their mother died in 1990, and Kathleen said their father died of a broken heart.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 in Northern Ireland, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, gardaí in Letterkenny on 074 9067100, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
