An international friendly between Ireland and Khalistan takes place on Saturday evening at the Guardian Warehousing Arena in Willenhall, Wolverhampton. The Irish squad includes players from several counties, among them Derry, Armagh, and Antrim.

Derry father and son Oisín and Dónal Ciarán Mac Eó are both named in the 18-man panel. The pair have represented Ireland on previous occasions.

The team is fielded by Cumann Sacair Gaeilge, an organisation founded by Oisín Mac Eó and sports journalist Cóilín Duffy to create social opportunities for Irish language speakers through soccer. Last April the group gained membership of CONIFA, the Confederation of Independent Football Associations, which exists to promote inclusion and cultural identity through international competition for nations and regions outside FIFA.

Donegal native Darren Ó Dubhgáin and Armagh man James Mac Éinrí share the captaincy. Other players come from Donegal, Galway, Louth, Laois, and Dublin.

Kick-off is at 7pm. The organisation also runs a weekly five-a-side session in Derry at the Bay Road Soccer venue on Monday nights.

Oisín Mac Eó works as a development officer with Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta in Donegal. Both he and his son are also due to take part in the International Table Football World Cup in Paris next month.
