Bank of Ireland rolls out image-based communication cards across branch network
Bank of Ireland has introduced a new communication tool in all its branches, including in Fermanagh, to assist customers who find it difficult to express their banking needs verbally.
Speak Easy Cards use straightforward images, colours and phrases to allow customers to request services such as checking an account balance, replacing a debit card or getting general assistance.
George Higginson, managing director of Everyday Banking at Bank of Ireland UK, said that while many people find these tasks simple, for some customers communicating those needs can be difficult and at times overwhelming. He described the cards as a simple but effective way for customers to tell staff what they need, helping to remove barriers and supporting more confident and independent banking.
The cards are part of a wider set of accessibility measures the bank has put in place. These include hearing loops, SignVideo services for sign language users, participation in the JAM Card and Hidden Disabilities Sunflower schemes, and alternative communication formats such as Braille, large print and audio documents.
Speak Easy Cards are now available at every branch.
