Roadworks Delays Spark Verbal Abuse Against Hospital Staff in Enniskillen
Motorists angry about lengthy delays caused by road resurfacing on the A32 Irvinestown Road in Enniskillen have verbally abused staff at South West Acute Hospital, a union representative has said.
The £250,000 carriageway scheme, between Cherrymount Roundabout and Hospital Roundabout, started on Monday 20 July and is scheduled to run until Friday 24 July.
Traffic is being diverted away from Hospital Roundabout, leading to journey times increasing by up to 45 minutes.
The Western Trust has confirmed that a shuttle bus serving the hospital is now using an emergency access route, cutting the wait time from 30 minutes to between 10 and 15 minutes.
Jill Weir, a Unison representative, said the public should not direct their frustration at hospital staff, who are trying to do their jobs amid disruption that is not of their making.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time and follow signposted diversions.
