A County Down farming family has won the Ulster Farmers’ Union Winter Barley Competition. The winner was not named in the announcement.

Jonathan Hamilton, representing the UFU South Londonderry Group, finished second. Third place went to Sam Long Jnr and Sam Long Snr from the UFU North Down Group.

UFU deputy president Clement Lynch praised the competitors, saying the event highlights the high standard of cereal crops produced in Northern Ireland. He noted growers show resilience despite the challenges each season brings.

Formal presentation of awards for the winter barley, oats, winter wheat and spring barley categories will be held at the 2026 UFU and sponsors Cereals Competition Awards and lunch later this year.
