Kerry Kennedy named player-coach at Donaghadee Ladies Hockey Club
Donaghadee Ladies Hockey Club has appointed Kerry Kennedy as its new player-coach for the 2026/27 season.
Kennedy will combine coaching responsibilities with her established role in midfield, having been a regular in the club's first XI for 12 years. She brings extensive representative experience, including appearances for Ulster at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-21 levels, and later at Over-40 and Over-45. She also played for Scottish Universities and spent a decade in the Ulster Premier League with Knock Ladies Hockey Club. In 2024, she captained the Knackered Knockers to victory in the club's inaugural Sixes tournament.
Club treasurer Alison McNeice said the club was excited by the appointment and highlighted Kennedy's deep understanding of the team and her strong playing record.
Pre-season preparations begin this month with four fitness sessions at the Commons in Donaghadee. Personal trainer Stephen Montgomery will lead the sessions on Wednesdays July 22 and 29, and August 5 and 12, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
The club is encouraging existing players, former members and anyone interested in taking up hockey to attend.
