Down ladies target All-Ireland semi-final reversal against Fermanagh
The Down ladies’ football team will play Fermanagh in an All-Ireland Championship semi-final on Sunday, with captain Laoise Duffy expressing confidence that the side can reverse the result of their league meeting earlier this year.
Fermanagh defeated Down by a point, 1-10 to 2-6, in March. That loss, followed by a defeat to Antrim, ended Down’s push for promotion from Division Three. Duffy acknowledged that the team may have been complacent after a strong run of form.
Duffy stated that the squad has no fear heading into the fixture. She said the management has identified Fermanagh’s threats and believes Down has the personnel to handle them.
She emphasised the need for sustained concentration in the knockout stages. “Every team that we are playing against now is top class,” Duffy said. “It has shown us that we need to make sure that we have that focus and determination in every game, no matter who we are playing.”
Down advanced to the semi-final after a quarter-final win over Monaghan. The winner will progress to the All-Ireland final.
