A man from Portadown has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a hammer attack on a woman.

The court heard that the victim, who is 4ft 8in tall, was left begging for her life in a pool of blood following the assault.

In addition to the custodial term, a five-year extended licence period was imposed, meaning he will remain under supervision after release.
