A man in his 40s is in police custody following a robbery at a takeaway in Downpatrick on Wednesday evening.

Officers were called to the Irish Street area shortly before 6.45pm on 24 June after reports that a man armed with a knife had entered the premises. He demanded a staff member open the till before making off with a quantity of cash.

The staff member was left shaken but did not sustain physical injuries.

Following inquiries, police arrested a man suspected of the robbery. He remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
