A Ballymena man has pleaded guilty to assault, criminal damage and possessing an axe as an offensive weapon.

Robert Michael Carleton, 58, of Waveney Road, admitted the three offences at Ballymena Magistrates' Court on Thursday. The charges relate to an incident on 25 April.

Carleton was charged with assault, causing criminal damage to a door, and having an axe with him in circumstances that gave rise to a reasonable suspicion that he did not have it for a lawful purpose.

The court heard that Carleton had a previous criminal record. Full details of the incident have not yet been outlined in open court.

District Judge (name not provided) adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report. Carleton will appear again for sentencing in July.
