Two delivery vans belonging to Shelbourne Bakery were completely destroyed in an arson attack at a car park in Newry late on Friday night.

The fire was reported at approximately 11.25pm in the North Street area. Police and crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the blaze, but both vehicles were gutted. No injuries were reported.

Police are treating the incident as arson and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.

Sinn Féin Councillor Valerie Harte described the act as reckless and disgraceful, saying it has caused significant damage and disruption to a business that is a backbone of the local economy. She added that local businesses should be able to operate without fear of intimidation or criminal damage.

The PSNI said the incident is not being treated as hate-related and is not believed to be linked to recent disorder elsewhere in Northern Ireland.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 2105 12/06/26, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
