Ards FC Inclusion Wins Belfast Telegraph Sport Award for Club Initiative
Ards FC Inclusion has been named Club Initiative of the Year at the 2026 Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards.
The team received the honour at a ceremony attended by other well-known Northern Ireland sporting figures.
Founded in 2020 with seven players, Ards FC Inclusion now fields approximately 35 male and female participants ranging in age from 16 to their 50s. The programme is open to people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Since its launch, the side has claimed multiple Inclusion League titles under the Irish FA structure and now competes within the South Belfast Youth League. It also received the Irish FA Football for All Award in 2024.
Beyond competitive football, the group uses the sport to foster social connections and personal development. It provides a support network that involves players, parents, guardians, social workers and care staff, assisting with education, mental health challenges and addiction support.
Players, coaches, volunteers and families all share in the award, the club said.
New players are welcome to join, and the club remains open to offers of support from individuals and organisations.
