Fiscal Council sets date for Sustainability Report 2026
The Northern Ireland Fiscal Council has set 16 June 2026 as the publication date for its next major assessment of the region's fiscal health. The Sustainability Report 2026 will be posted on the council's website at 11am on that day.
The watchdog, which began operating in 2022, provides independent scrutiny of Stormont's budgetary plans and long-term financial outlook. Its periodic sustainability reports examine whether Northern Ireland's public spending and tax revenues can be maintained in the face of demographic and economic pressures.
Previous reports have pointed to risks including a growing older population, lower-than-average household incomes, and a heavy reliance on block grant funding from Westminster. The council has consistently urged the Executive to address structural gaps between spending needs and locally generated revenue.
The June 2026 report will offer an updated view, incorporating the latest official data and policy developments since the council's last sustainability publication.
