Mid Ulster MLA Emma Sheerin has highlighted the severe impact of the withdrawal of services from legally aided Crown Court cases. The Sinn Féin justice spokesperson said the consequences for victims, witnesses and defendants cannot be understated.

She was speaking after the Justice Minister confirmed acceptance of all recommendations from a review into the matter. Ms Sheerin expressed hope that the move would pave the way for a full return to service.

She said the justice system must be properly resourced to ensure timely access to justice for all involved. Many victims and witnesses have already suffered due to lengthy case delays, she noted.

The MLA urged the Justice Minister to begin immediate discussions with the Criminal Bar Association to bring the dispute to an end.
