EirGrid increases landowner payments for north-south interconnector pylons
EirGrid has raised compensation payments for landowners affected by the proposed north-south electricity interconnector.
The revised offer provides up to €50,000 for each pylon placed on private land and €160 per metre for overhead lines, with a minimum payment of €8,000.
An alternative upfront payment option offers €43,000 per pylon and €140 per metre, also subject to the €8,000 minimum.
The €40 million compensation package covers properties along the route from County Meath to County Tyrone.
Landowners who accept the upfront payment may seek additional compensation within six years of works beginning on their land.
EirGrid stated that the updated terms do not increase the overall compensation budget.
The interconnector is planned for completion in 2031, with construction expected to start this year.
