Dáithí Mac Gabhann and President Catherine Connolly unveiled a heritage stone from Bangor Abbey at the Circle of Life Garden in Salthill, Galway on Saturday.

The stone was presented by the organ donation and transplant community in Northern Ireland to mark organ donation.

The gift follows a 2018 exchange in which a stone from the Galway garden was presented to Kiltonga in Newtownards.

Dáithí Mac Gabhann is awaiting a heart transplant and is the namesake of Northern Ireland's new opt-out organ donation legislation.

Máirtín Mac Gabhann, father of Dáithí, attended the event with his sons.

The stone originates from the site of the sixth century Bangor Abbey in County Down.
